May<\/td>John Gregory<\/td>Mountaineering<\/td>John was a member of the team of climbers, mainly from the Sheffield area, who made the first ascent of a mountain called the Fortress in Patagonia in 1968. At the time the ascent was deemed to be important as it was remote and in an area subject to poor weather. Mountaineering and climbing in general has come on in leaps and bounds since that time due to improvements in equipment, training and improved techniques. The lecture includes their preparation, the journey out in a cargo ship and then the actual approach and climbing on the mountain. <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
